Our client is one of the largest and renowned construction organizations ranked among the world’s top 30 contractors in India. The company has been transforming cities and landscapes with structures of immense size and grandeur over the past seven decades.

Business Challenges

Traceability of the material was an extremely burdensome challenge for the client – leading to several inefficiencies. With the formwork components undergoing a series of changes in the yard to make them suitable for construction, the BOQ of the inward material has a distinct variation to that of outward, making reconciliation difficult.

Many a time non-standard formwork components had to be newly fabricated as it was impossible to find the same type of components with the same dimensions in the yard. The client lacked an intelligent system to record receipt, refurbishment and dispatch of aluminium formwork components at the yard and instead resorted to spreadsheets and manual record-keeping.

They wanted to partner with a well-established mobile app development company to streamline asset tracking.

Context:

Aluminium Formwork System is a construction system for forming cast in the concrete structure of a building. It is also a system for scheduling and controlling the work of other construction trades such as steel reinforcement, concrete placement and mechanical and electrical conduits.

The client wanted to enhance tracking of Aluminium Formwork materials, which they used on a continuous basis. The existing system defined components by their physical dimensions and used a code to identify the location in which they would have to be placed during the construction process.

Solution

Materials managers have been equipped with a central dashboard containing information on assets lying across the project sites and the number of times each asset bundle has been used. The dashboard can also track the material movement requests and ROI of the asset.

On the other hand, our expert Android and iOS app developers empowered the site managers with Android and iOS applications to track assets and classify them into four categories: available quantity (including the faulty ones), requested, yet to arrive and the ones to be dispatched to another site. The app also enabled site managers to update yard managers & initiate the cleaning process & materials movement.

We included a QR Code scanner in each and every step to track the formworks. The QR-code scanner coupled with Android and iOS application helped in cross-checking the quantities during dispatch and unloading of components at every site to ensure better operational performance.

Our objective was to provide an interface with better UX to the client for handling the operations. We ensured all the actions could be performed with a minimal number of clicks by the client to achieve faster and better decision-making.
